Sandy’s mother was born at Haastbluff in the Western Desert of the Tanami and his father was born at Oodnadatta in South Australia. Sandy was born in Alice Springs in 1956.
Sandy’s parents passed away when he was young. Sandy was then taken away to Croker Island (Minjalang) in Arnhem Land . In 1965 the mission was closed and Sandy was ent to live in Darwin . In 1967 Sandy was fostered out and sent to Tasmania.
In 1968, Sandy was moved back to Darwin, then later down to Victoria with a new family. Sandy Walker has been living in Darwin for 30 years where he paints stories he has learned from his Mother’s family and Country.
