Biography:
Angela is an Anmatyerre artist, and she went to school at a cattle station near Tennant Creek where she began painting at a young age, taking guidance from her well-known aunties Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre. Her mother is well known artist Phyllis Mbitjana, and Angela is also related to the famous Numina sisters.
One of Angela’s totems is the bush medicine plant, and she expresses her connection to the plant through her paintings. The bush medicine plant is an Australian native plant that grows wild in Central Australia.
Angela also paints about Bush Tucker such as yams, wild tomato, plums, honey ants and Witchetty grubs. In her paintings she depicts the implements they use such as digging sticks and coolamons.
