Biography:
Joanne Ken was born in 1968 in the Antara/Mimili region to Iwana Antjakitja Ken and Fred Muru. She was raised around Fregon (Kaltjiti) on the APY Lands. She deeply identifies with her Pitjantjatjara language and country. Joanne draws inspiration from the waterhole near her hometown and paints vivid depictions of the "Pupu" (waterhole) and the natural beauty that surrounds it.
Her paintings include pieces co-created with her talented Sister, Carolanne Ken, notably of the Seven Sisters Dreaming. Her work typically features concentric circles symbolising sacred waterholes, meandering lines mapping dry creek beds and patterned zones representing sandy hills and native grass plains of Fregon and surrounding lands.
